In this role, you will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of ATEC training and education initiatives, with a strong focus on capacity-building projects for the use of decision-support tools in informed coastal planning and decision-making.
As a central member of our team, you will help ensure the smooth and effective execution of programs that align with CMCC and ATEC’s strategic goals, contributing to the acceleration of innovative research on coastal resilience. ROLE
The Coastal Resilience Policy Specialist reports to the ATEC Director.
As a Specialist, you will act as a bridge between cutting-edge scientific research and its practical application. Your mission will be to transform complex Decision Support Systems (DSS) into accessible and strategic training pathways, ensuring that policymakers and stakeholders have the necessary skills to protect our coastal ecosystems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coastal Resilience Policy Specialist will support ATEC as follows:
- Training & Capacity Building: Contribute to the design, organization, and implementation of training programmes on the use of integrated coastal and marine monitoring systems for informed disaster risk management and decision-making aimed at coastal resilience.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support the design and implementation of targeted activities to engage public stakeholders (national and local public authorities, disaster risk and rescue management authorities, environmental agencies), including organizing workshops, conferences, and policy dialogues to facilitate knowledge exchange.
- Project Collaboration: Foster collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and external partners to design and implement EU-funded projects aimed at advancing coastal resilience and promoting sustainable development.
- Policy Advocacy: Assist in the development and implementation of policy recommendations, leveraging research findings and stakeholder inputs to inform evidence-based decision-making on coastal resilience.
- Communication & Reporting: Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and presentations to communicate research findings, policy analyses, and recommendations to policymakers, practitioners, and other key stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Education: Master’s degree in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in a relevant role.
- Capacity Building: A proven track record in designing and implementing capacity enhancement programs for public authorities, specifically focusing on climate change adaptation, coastal resilience, and sustainability.
- Policy Expertise: Familiarity with EU and Italian policies, institutions, and decision-making processes related to environmental sustainability and climate change, including experience working on EU and nationally funded projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong interest in and knowledge of environmental economics, coastal resilience, and coastal governance, with a demonstrated commitment to promoting sustainability.
- Soft Skills: High motivation to work in a multicultural, fast-paced environment; a proactive team player with excellent communication skills in both Italian and English.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with proficiency in qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Previous experience or involvement in European and national research projects.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
- The Managers will be based in Milan CMCC office.
- Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience
- Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
- Flexible working time as per internal policies.
