ROLE

This Senior researcher on harmonizing observation-based and inventory-based GHG estimates reports to the responsible of the CMCC Research Line on “Carbon cycle in the land sector and climate policy targets” and is responsible for providing scientific synthesis aiming to enhance the usability of top-down and bottom-up greenhouse gas (GHG) data for science, policy and society. The researcher will ensure that project outputs — including CO, CH, and NO budgets, verification methods, and inventory data — are accurately interpreted, clearly communicated, and effectively disseminated to both institutional stakeholders and broader audiences.
The expert will also play a leading role in drafting good practice guidelines, educational materials, and policy briefs, contributing to international climate policy processes and will support the capacity-building of stakeholders through targeted outreach and engagement activities.



RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior researcher on harmonizing observation-based and inventory-based GHG estimates will support the research team with:
  • Supporting the technical synthesis of model & observation-based and inventory-based GHG estimates
  • Translating technical outputs (CO, CH, NO budgets, top-down vs. bottom-up accounting and verification) into policy-relevant formats
  • Coordinating the development of good practice guidelines for inventory and models reconciliation
  • Contributing to the drafting of policy briefs and education tools for decision-makers
  • Acting as a communication bridge between science, policy and society, including leading stakeholder engagement, dissemination and outreach activities in EU-funded projects


REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in modelling and/or accounting GHG emissions and their impact on climate change, with particular focus on natural and semi-natural ecosystems.
  • Master’s degree in environmental science.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience on greenhouse gas monitoring and verification systems.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language.
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills.


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The Researcher will be based in Viterbo CMCC office.
  • Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience.
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract
  • Flexible working time as per internal policies.
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
