WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is seeking a post-degree or post-doctoral researcher to join our team in Lecce. This position will support our maritime research activities, with a particular emphasis on ship weather routing modelling. The initial work will be part of the MISSION and EDITO-Model Lab projects funded by Horizon Europe.

ROLE
The Maritime Research Modeller reports to the GOCO-Division Director and is responsible for research on understanding and mitigating the environmental impact of the shipping industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Maritime Research Modeller will support the Maritime Research Unit, with:

research and identification of relevant academic and industry sources
maintenance and development of the VISIR-2 ship routing model
development and engineering of code prototypes
contribution to communication and scientific dissemination activities

REQUIREMENTS

Master Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science
For post-Doc: PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science
Proficiency in Python
Experience with machine learning methods
Minimum 1 reference letter (for post-Degree candidates) or 2 (for post-Doc)
Very good knowledge of the English language
Accuracy and good analytical skills

DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
The Managers will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
The appointment period will be initially of 12 months starting from January 2025, with a gross annual salary range of 30-35 K Euro for the Post-Degree and 34-40 K Euro for the Post-Doc. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
Flexible working time as per internal policies.
Support during the immigration process, if needed.
