ROLE
The Data Analyst Expert on Ecosystems and Climate targets will be responsible for accessing, pre-processing, collecting, elaborating, and analysing data coming from different sources (including remote sensing imagery, numerical to empirical models, geoportals and statistical portals, other existing databases/datalakes, field measurements and in-situ monitoring) mainly related to climate, vegetation, soil, water and terrestrial ecosystem variables, with the final aim to produce land cover, land use and other maps on land surface characteristics and extracts information mainly related to current and future evolution of land-climate interactions, with a special focus on GHG emissions and removals.
Specific activities will include:
  • Design and implement workflows (building spatio-temporal operations, data analytics procedures, writing codes) for the full chain from data access to pre- and post-processing up to synthesis and delivery/dissemination of results;
  • Integrate and correlate different data and extract valuable insights on ecosystems functionality and land-climate feedback;
  • Contribute to the critical analysis of the findings specifically in relation to the main existing policies at the EU and global level for the land sector and climate change.


RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility will be:
  • Managing, processing and combining satellite imagery, model-derived time-series of climate and related impact data, or other cartographic maps and georeferenced datasets on territorial characteristics using, among others, statistical, image analysis and geospatial tools and software, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment;
  • Monitoring the quality of information produced;
  • Interpreting results, with reference to the European and global policy context and climate targets;
  • Preparing and delivering reports and scientific publications, as well as presenting in conferences.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in scientific disciplines;
  • Knowledge of terrestrial ecosystems processes, with focus on vegetation and climate, and consolidated experiences (minimum 3 years) on data analysis on those ecosystems;
  • Knowledge of the climate policy framework at the global and EU level (e.g. UNFCCC, Paris Agreement, Green Deal);
  • Excellent knowledge of Python language and other programming languages like R, MATLAB, etc;
  • Knowledge of climate-related dataset formats (NetCDF, GRIB) and manipulation tools (CDO, NCO) and libraries/packages (e.g. x-array);
  • Capacity to elaborate remote-sensing imagery or time series using GIS or other tools/software;
  • Very good knowledge of the English language;
  • Knowledge of the Italian language.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS
  • PhD on environment-related disciplines is an asset;
  • Participation (as co-author or preferably first author) in scientific publication on peer-reviewed scientific publications journals is an asset;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Strong problem-solving attitude;
  • High motivation to learn;
  • Good in time and priority management.


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally;
  • The Managers will be based in Viterbo CMCC office;
  • The appointment period will be initially of 12 months starting from November 2024, renewable from 2 to 4 years or possibly convertible into permanent position. Gross annual salary range is from 26.000 to 34.000 Euros, depending on qualification and working experience;
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract;
  • Flexible working time and location as per internal policies;
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
