WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) is hiring one Post Doctoral researcher to work in the division Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services (IAFES). The new team member will join the research unit on the nexus water-energy-food-ecosystems and associated landscape process and dynamics, and in particular the researcher will contribute to the ongoing research on Landscape Ecology and Agronomy, working on ecosystem services assessment within agroecosystems and other land-uses.

We are looking for a highly organized and motivated individual with a background in agroecology, environmental science, soil science or similar fields, and a strong interest in the impacts of human activities and climate change on ecosystems functioning.

You will work in a collaborative and international environment, located in Viterbo or Sassari. You will contribute to ongoing European and National research projects and have professional development and training opportunities.

ROLE


The Post doctoral researcher will report to the division Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services and will contribute to ongoing European and National research projects, including the analysis and interpretation of field data, as well as the reporting and communication of results. In particular, she/he will support research focused on understanding and enhancing ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes through their assessment and spatial mapping, applying integrative approaches that combine field data collection, geospatial analysis, and modeling techniques. A core aspect of the role will involve the development of robust indicators and decision-support tools designed to guide the creation of multifunctional and climate-resilient landscapes. This includes supporting the design and implementation of nature-based solutions and agroecological strategies that improve soil health and enhance ecosystem service delivery while promoting environmental sustainability. Finally, the ideal candidate will integrate agronomic knowledge with landscape ecological principles. This interdisciplinary perspective will help identify and support sustainable transition pathways in farming systems, aligned with climate resilience and ecological restoration goals.




RESPONSIBILITIES

According to the level of expertise and skills, the Post doctoral researcher will support the group on Landscape Ecology and Agronomy, with:
  • Analyzing and interpreting data on ecological indicators, including soil health and biodiversity
  • Assessing ecosystem services in agroecosystems and other land-uses
  • Conducting quantitative and/or qualitative assessments of the trade-offs and synergies among ecosystem services in agroecosystems
  • Identify and assess indicators of sustainable agroecological practices and their effectiveness
  • Managing and reporting project activities
  • Communicating and disseminating scientific results
  • Developing new research ideas and funding acquisition


REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in Agroecology, Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Science or equivalent subjects.
  • Experience in measuring and assessing environmental indicators
  • Familiarity with geospatial analysis and/or modelling techniques
  • Very good knowledge of the English language.
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills for both specialized and non-specialized audience
  • An empathetic, teamwork oriented and inclusive attitude.


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The Managers will be based in Viterbo and Sassari CMCC offices.
  • The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from January 2026, with a gross annual salary range of 28.000 - 35.000 Euros depending on the level of seniority and the previous experiences. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
  • Flexible working time as per internal policies.
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
