We are looking for a highly motivated and well-organized Researcher in Geospatial Analysis & Data Integration for Climate Applications, with a strong background in Geographic Information System (GIS), spatial data infrastructures, and multi-source data integration workflows.
The ideal candidate has experience in the integration, processing, and analysis of geospatial, environmental, climate, and socio-economic datasets to support climate risk assessment and resilience-oriented decision-making. The position requires expertise in spatial analysis, geospatial data management, interoperability across heterogeneous data sources, and data-driven workflows supporting urban and territorial applications. The ideal candidate should also have a sound understanding of climate data analysis, data-driven modelling approaches, and climate risk and resilience indicators, in order to ensure the scientific consistency of workflows integrating climate information with geospatial, urban, and infrastructure-related datasets.
The candidate should demonstrate familiarity with GIS-based modelling approaches, spatial databases, and data pipelines for integrating climate information with urban and infrastructure-related datasets. Experience in digital platforms for climate services, geospatial visualization, decision-support tools, and urban-scale applications is considered an asset. Experience with data integration frameworks supporting climate applications, including the connection of spatial datasets and climate intelligence services such as DATACLIME, will be highly valued.
Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and proactive engagement with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders are highly valued.

ROLE
The Researcher in Geospatial Analysis & Data Integration for Climate Applications will be part of the REMHI Division – Regional Models and geo-Hydrological Impacts, reporting to the Division Director, and will contribute to the development of geospatial analysis workflows and data integration processes supporting climate adaptation and resilience applications. The role focuses on spatial analysis, geospatial data processing, and data interoperability, enabling the integration of climate, environmental, urban, and socio-economic datasets into operational workflows and digital services to support risk assessment, adaptation planning, and resilience-oriented decision-making. The Researcher will contribute to research and innovation activities related to GIS-based analysis, geospatial data infrastructures, and climate service applications, supporting the generation of spatial indicators, maps, and data products for decision-support systems.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Researcher in Geospatial Analysis & Data Integration for Climate Applications will support the REMHI team, with:
  • Integrate and manage climate, environmental, geospatial, socio-economic, and design datasets to support multi-scale assessment of climate risks, exposure, vulnerabilities, and adaptation strategies;
  • Develop interoperable digital workflows and data environments for the digital representation and monitoring of urban systems under climate stressors;
  • Support the analysis, visualization, and comparison of urban regeneration scenarios through interoperable digital environments integrating climate data with urban, district, and building-scale information;
  • Contribute to the integration of functionalities in the DATACLIME platform.
  • Develop, configure, or apply digital tools and semi-automated procedures for computing and visualizing KPIs related to climate risk and resilience;
  • Contribute to web-based 2D/3D visualization environments and dashboards for representing baseline conditions and alternative scenarios;
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across climate science, engineering, urban planning, and digital technologies.

REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in Geoinformatics, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines;
  • Experience or strong interest in geospatial data integration and digital modelling approaches for urban, territorial, and built-environment applications; 
  • Experience with GIS software (preferably QGIS, also ArcGIS),and integration of multi-source geospatial datasets;
  • Familiarity with data structures and relational databases (e.g., PosgreSQL/PostGIS);
  • Knowledge of climate data analysis, data-driven modelling approaches, and climate risk/resilience indicators, with experience or strong interest in integrating climate and geospatial datasets for urban and territorial applications; 
  • Solid programming skills in Python,, SQL, APIs for data processing, automation, interoperability, and model integration; familiarity with semantic models and linked data is beneficial;
  • Familiarity with open standards and formats (IFC, CityGML, CityJSON) and BIM–GIS interoperability workflows  is a strong plus;
  • Experience with web-GIS and 2D/3D visualization technologies (e.g., CesiumJS, Three.js, OpenLayers, Leaflet, WebGL, IfcOpenShell) is a strong plus;
  • Basic familiarity with web development (JavaScript, React, or similar) is welcome;
  • Excellent knowledge of English; good communication and teamworking skills.


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The researcher will be based in Caserta CMCC office.
  • The contract offered for this position will be a Coordinated and Continuous Collaboration contract, with a start date of September 15 and a duration of 12 months.
  • The gross annual salary range for this position is 28–33K Euros. The salary offered within the range will be determined based on years of relevant experience, level of seniority, specific technical skills, applying objective and gender-neutral criteria.
  • Welfare package of 2,000 Euro per year.
  • Flexible working time as per internal policies.
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
