Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is hiring a talented, motivated and proactive Junior Research Associate in Data Management and HPC to work in the Advanced Scientific Computing division in the framework of the PNRR HPC SPOKE 4 project.

ROLE
The Junior Research Associate is responsible for supporting research activities in Data Management and HPC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Junior Research Associate will be involved in the:
- Development and improvement of data management solutions and strategies for handling heterogenous climate/environmental data sources.
- Drafting of scientific reports and technical documentation related to the developed solutions.
REQUIREMENTS
- M.Sc. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent fields
- 3+ years’ experience in scientific software development and parallel programming
- Excellent knowledge of C/Fortran and Python programming language
- Good knowledge of data management systems, and DBMS design
- Good knowledge of data delivery technologies and platforms (e.g. ERDDAP)
- Parallel programming with MPI of scientific codes for heterogenous HPC architectures
- Experience with HPC systems
- Relevant experience with scripting languages like Bash and Python
- Experience in complex software development and software version control systems (e.g. Git).
- Experience with Linux environment.
- Knowledge of Python scientific libraries and tools for data analysis (i.e., numpy, pandas, Jupyter notebooks).
- Knowledge of NetCDF data formats and related tools.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English language
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Based on the duration of the employment contract, without prejudice to any changes in organisation and/or career paths and downstream of the performance appraisal;
- The appointment is assigned following:
- internal selection;
- external selection in the event that there are no internal candidates, or they are assessed as unsuitable;
- The appointment period will be initially of 12° months starting from November 2024;
- The gross annual salary range is from 28K to 35K Euros, depending on qualification and working experience;
- Welfare package;
- Flexible working time;
- Support during the immigration process, if needed.
The position has been opened within the project PNRR HPC, CUP Number C83C22000560007.
