WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Post Doc or Junior scientist to analyze sustainable solutions for agri-food systems in Sardinia, focusing on soil management, resource efficiency, and sustainable dietary choices. The candidate will evaluate innovative agricultural practices, assess the environmental and socio-economic impacts of food production and consumption, and collaborate with stakeholders to support the transition towards more resilient and sustainable food systems. The candidate will collaborate with our scientists at Impact on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services (IAFES) division, based in Sassari in the framework of two ongoing projects: SWITCH (funded by Horizon Europe programme) and AGRISTAR (funded by Sottomisura 16.5 del PSR Regione Sardegna 2014/2020).

ROLE
The candidate is expected to analyze and promote innovative solutions for enhancing the sustainability of agri-food systems in Sardinia. The candidate will focus on sustainable soil management, resource efficiency, and environmentally responsible dietary choices, working at the intersection of research, policy, and practice. The role involves assessing innovative agricultural techniques, evaluating supply chain sustainability, and analyzing policy frameworks that can drive the transition toward more resilient and sustainable food production and consumption systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Post Doc or Junior scientist will support the IAFES division with:
- Evaluation of Sustainable Practices: assess the effectiveness of agro-ecological approaches, conservation agriculture, precision agriculture, and regenerative agriculture techniques in the Sardinian context, considering both environmental and economic feasibility.
- Food System Sustainability Assessments: investigate the environmental footprint and socio-economic implications of different dietary patterns and agricultural models, identifying strategies to optimize resource use, reduce waste, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with farmers, food producers, policymakers, and consumers to co-develop solutions, identify barriers to adoption, and facilitate the transition to more sustainable agri-food systems.
- Knowledge Dissemination: Contribute to outreach and education efforts by developing reports and communication materials, as well as organizing workshops, stakeholder meetings, and public engagement initiatives to promote sustainable food systems.
REQUIREMENTS
- PhD in Agricultural Science or equivalent subjects.
- Strong background in sustainable agriculture, food systems, or environmental policy.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis of sustainability challenges.
- Familiarity with Sardinia’s agricultural landscape and food culture.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, from farmers to policymakers.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Very good knowledge of the English language, with strong communication skills for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
- Availability to travel for limited periods
- Proven track record on international research and publication at the intersection of sustainable agriculture, food systems, environmental policies.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
- The appointment period will be initially of 12 months, renewable for n°12 additional months pending a positive evaluation. The gross annual salary range is 28000 to 45000 Euros, depending on qualification and working experience.
- Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
- Flexible working time as per internal policies.
- Support during the immigration process, if needed.
