ROLE
The Project Manager will be responsible for the operational coordination and management of national and international collaborative research projects carried out within the Earth System Modelling and Data Assimilation Division. Working in close interaction with the scientific staff, the role will ensure that all aspects of project implementation are aligned with the established goals, timelines, and funding requirements.
The Project Manager will act as a key interface between the scientific team, project partners, funding agencies, and internal administrative departments, facilitating smooth communication and effective project execution. In addition, the selected candidate may also contribute to the development and preparation of new project proposals, supporting the scientific team in identifying funding opportunities, organizing input, and compiling documentation. This role is crucial in supporting the division's mission to advance research on climate and Earth system processes through the development and application of complex models and data assimilation techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Project Manager will support the Lead Scientists in the ESYDA division with:
- Coordinate day-to-day management activities for research projects, ensuring alignment with scientific objectives and contractual obligations.
- Track and report progress against deliverables, milestones, and work plans.
- Draft, review, and support the submission of periodic and final reports to funding agencies.
- Support the preparation and submission of project proposals, in collaboration with researchers and institutional project offices.
- Assist in the development and writing of new project proposals, including the preparation of administrative sections, timelines, and supporting documentation.
- Organize and manage project-related meetings, workshops, and outreach events.
- Maintain effective communication and document sharing among project partners and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with project management best practices and funder requirements.
- Support risk assessment and mitigation strategies in collaboration with project leads.
REQUIREMENTS
- A university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Sciences, Project Management, International Relations, or related disciplines).
- Minimum of 5-year work experience in managing or supporting scientific or international collaborative projects.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
- Very good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with project management and productivity software.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Earth system science, climate research, or environmental data is an asset.
- Experience with European Commission project frameworks (e.g., Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe) is highly valued.
- Knowledge of project management tools and reporting platforms.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
- The position will be based in CMCC’s office in Bologna.
- The initial appointment will be for 24 months, potentially starting from 1st September 2025, with a gross annual salary depending on the level of experience.
- Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
