WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR


Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is seeking a new Postdoctoral Researcher or Junior Scientist to enhance our research efforts focused on the decarbonization of maritime trade. Responsibilities will involve contributing to the refinement and application of the ship weather routing model VISIR-2 (https://zenodo.org/communities/visir2/about), as well as engaging in rapid prototyping, data mining, and the development of innovative algorithms, potentially incorporating machine learning techniques, contributing in the frame of the Horizon Europe projects MISSION and EDITO-ModelLab.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


A Post-Doc at CMCC is responsible for caring out research activities based on predetermined procedures and with responsibilities related to their proper execution; collaborates on national and international research projects; contributes to the publication of research results.
A Junior Scientist collaborates on research projects and in drafting project reports; is proficient in using all the main tools of research activity; carries out activities with varying levels of complexity and with a degree of responsibility related to the overall correctness of the managed procedures; participates in the publication of research results.



REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, or Naval Architecture (if J.Scientist: also two years relevant working experience after the Ph.D.)
  • Both theoretical and practical knowledge of the Python programming language
  • At least one recommendation letter (if J.Scientist: at least two letters)
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Positive interpersonal and collaborative capacity


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

 
  • The appointment period will be initially of 12 months starting from June 2024, renewable for 24 months additional months pending a positive evaluation. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
  • The gross annual salary range is from 32 to 38K Euros for the PostDoc and 35 to 45K for the Junior Scientist, depending on qualification and working experience.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
