WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
CMCC's financial sustainability is based on the vigorous fundraising efforts of all CMCC staff and scientists. CMCC is constantly working with the goal of extending its network of collaboration with universities and research agencies by participating in the competitive funding process for Grants & Tenders (European research and innovation programs, as well as national and international competitive funding). To this end, CMCC has an in-house office - the Fund Raising Office based in Milan - dedicated to the monitoring of national, European and international funding opportunities, and supporting the preparation and submission of CMCC proposals.
This fantastic team is now looking for a Philanthropy Specialist to join the FR team and contribute to the brand-new Philanthropy CMCC activities with the goal of generating income through the development and implementation of a gifts and donors’ fundraising strategy. This role will include the development of funding applications to Trust & Foundations as well as the acquisition and stewardship of donor supporters.
The strategy for acquiring philanthropic funds will focus on the following strategic Program areas of the CMCC:
- Global coasts as a new frontier
- Predicting socio-economic impacts of climate change
- Integrating AI and ML in the modeling chain

ROLE
The Philanthropy Specialist reports to the Head of Fund Raising and is responsible for the following activities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Philanthropy Specialist will support the CMCC Fund Raising team, with:
- CMCC Fundraising Strategy Development: Support the FR team in the creation and implementation of effective fundraising strategies to secure grants, and donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other funding sources;
- Scouting: Identify new opportunities of philanthropic support for climate related research activities at national, European and international levels;
- Donor Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing donors while identifying and engaging potential new donors who are passionate about climate research;
- Campaign Management: Support in planning and executing fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives that align with our organizational goals and resonate with our target audience;
- Grant Writing: Research and write compelling grant proposals and reports to secure funding from philanthropic organizations and government agencies;
- Collaboration: Work closely with the FR, CMCC Programs Directors, and Communication teams to ensure alignment and maximize the impact of CMCC fundraising efforts;
- Data Management: Maintain accurate donor records and analyze fundraising data to inform strategies and measure success;
- Communications: Develop and deliver impactful presentations, reports, and communications that effectively convey our mission and the importance of supporting climate research.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in relevant fields (e.g., Environmental Science, Non-Profit Management, Public Relations);
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in fundraising, either Trust or Donor fundraising, with a proven track record of securing significant gifts and grants in the non-profit or climate research sectors;
- Exceptional proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, including the ability to write compelling proposals, reports, and presentations, as well as engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in any additional language(s) is a plus. Languages of particular interest include Italian, Spanish, French, which can help expand our global outreach and engagement efforts;
- Accuracy and good analytical skills;
- Deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental sustainability;
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Strong writing and presentation abilities. Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills with an ability to work independently and use your own initiative.

DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally;
- The Philanthropy Specialist will be based in Milan CMCC office. We are open to considering different types of work/location arrangements based and preferences of the candidates;
- Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience;
- Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract;
- Flexible working time as per internal policies;
- Support during the immigration process, if needed.
