The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of the climate finance architecture, public and private investment mechanisms, and the challenges associated with mobilising finance for adaptation and resilience-building actions.

We are looking for someone who thrives in collaborative and fast-paced environments, is comfortable engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders—including financial institutions, public authorities, investors, and research organisations—and enjoys working across disciplines to address real-world adaptation challenges.
The role requires a highly organised professional with excellent coordination skills and experience supporting the development and management of complex projects and funding proposals.

ROLE

The Climate Finance Specialist will report to the Principal Investigator and the Principal Scientist, contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of activities related to climate adaptation finance and investment mobilisation.


RESPONSIBILITIES


The Climate Finance Specialist will support the Principal Scientist in:
  • Developing strategies to mobilise private capital alongside public funding instruments to accelerate climate adaptation and resilience investments.
  • Contributing to the design, assessment, and implementation of innovative financing approaches and investment mechanisms for climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Engaging with financial institutions, public authorities, investors, research organisations, and other stakeholders to strengthen adaptation finance ecosystems and facilitate collaboration.
  • Monitoring and analysing climate finance policies, funding programmes, and investment frameworks at European and international levels to support project activities and strategic initiatives.
  • Leading or supporting the preparation of competitive funding proposals, as well as the implementation, coordination, and reporting of national and international research and innovation projects.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and dissemination activities to maximise project impact and facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Representing CMCC in project meetings, technical workshops, conferences, and other engagement activities with project partners and external stakeholders.
 


REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Climate Change, Environmental Economics, Environmental Policy, Sustainable Finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in climate finance, sustainable finance, climate policy, adaptation finance, or related fields.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.



DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Please note that this opportunity will be advertised both internally and externally.
  • The Climate Finance Specialist will be based at CMCC's Venice office.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a Coordinated and Continuous Collaboration (Co.Co.Co.) contract, starting in September 2026 and lasting for 3 months.
  • The gross annual salary for this position ranges from €45,000 to €55,000. The salary offered within this range will be determined based on the candidate's relevant professional experience, level of seniority, and specific technical skills, applying objective and gender-neutral criteria.
  • Flexible working hours in accordance with internal policies.
  • Support throughout the immigration process, if required.
