WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The CMCC Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies Division (RAAS), located in Venice, is seeking to immediately hire multiple positions (up to 5) - from junior to senior level - in Water Modeling, Hydro-Economic Modeling, Earth Observation, and Water Policy.
Successful candidates will work closely with the team on the TRANSCEND project, which is scheduled to conclude at the end of the year. There will also be opportunity to collaborate on other ongoing international and European projects related to climate adaptation, risk assessment, and nature-based solutions. ROLE
Working under the strategic direction of the RAAS Senior Scientist, this multidisciplinary team integrates technical expertise across four key pillars to drive the TRANSCEND project forward. The Water Modelling and Earth Observation specialists provide the core physical simulations and geospatial data required for high-resolution monitoring, while the Hydro-Economic specialist quantifies the socio-economic impacts of resource management. Completing the team, the Water Policy specialist translates these technical and economic insights into actionable governance frameworks and strategic recommendations. Together, this team ensures a holistic, science-based approach to solving complex water challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Water Modeling, Hydro-Economic Modeling, Earth Observation, and Water Policy Specialists will work on the finalization of the ongoing tasks of TRANSCEND project which is scheduled to conclude at the end of 2026.
The Specialists will also be encouraged to explore new research topics for future proposals and contribute to scientific publications.
REQUIREMENTS
▪ PhD (for Senior positions) or Master’s degree (for Junior positions) in Hydrology, Water Resources, Remote Sensing, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
▪ Background and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: Earth Observation applied to hydrology and climate; hydrologic, hydraulic, or hydro‑economic modelling; climate risk assessment; water policy; or related topics
▪ Basic quantitative and programming skills, or a willingness to learn (ideally in R or Python)
▪ Proficiency in English (working language at CMCC/RAAS)
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
▪ Able to work on diverse and interdisciplinary teams
▪ Good communication skills (oral and written)
▪ Strong problem-solving abilities
▪ Adaptable and comfortable adjusting to evolving project needs
▪ Effective at managing multiple tasks and working under tight deadlines
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
- The Specialists will be based in CMCC’s Venice office (depending on the individual situation, hybrid/remote mode could be evaluated).
- The initial contract term is 1–6 months for Senior roles and 6 months for Junior roles, with an immediate start date. Contracts will be renewed based on positive performance evaluations.
- Contract terms and gross annual salary will be determined according to qualifications and professional experience.
- Flexible working time as per internal policies.
- Support during the immigration process is available, if needed.
