WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking 3 motivated and talented from Early Career Researchers with proven programming skills, and an environmental and/or economic background. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in modeling—especially in climate-energy-economic systems—and expertise in computational science, environmental sciences or engineering, environmental economics, or related fields.

ROLE
The Scientist(s) will work within the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), one of the three CMCC Institutes. EIEE stands at the intersection of environment and economics, evaluating sustainable and socially inclusive strategies to combat climate change and other major environmental challenges. EIEE is committed to improving environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial socio-economic research and policy engagement. EIEE is a central hub for research insights and policy solutions, within Europe and internationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The successful applicants will join our modelling teams, working within an international and interdisciplinary environment.
- They will contribute to funded projects carried out in collaboration with international consortia, focusing on the development and application of integrated assessment models. These include climate-energy-economy models with detailed process representations, energy system models, and macroeconomic models.
- Writing and contributing to European projects, scientific publications, and science-policy reports based on this work.
- Present those at scientific workshops and conferences.
REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
- Experience in modelling using economic frameworks, such as GAMS, Julia, or JuMP
- Good skills in programming languages such as Python or R
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large datasets and complex models.
- PhD or close to finishing a PhD in computational science, applied mathematics, engineering, physics, or any related fields to integrated assessment models and coupled climate-economy modeling.
- Fluency in English, good presentation and writing skills.
- Availability to travel to project meetings and conferences.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and diverse environment committed to high-quality research.
- Experience in climate-economic modelling
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- The position will be based in Milan CMCC office.
- The appointment period will be initially 24 months, renewable for two additional years pending a positive evaluation.
- Contract and gross salary will be based on qualifications and working experience and competitive with major research centers in Europe.
