Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is looking for a new position of Marine biogeochemical modeller and analyst (Post-Doc), located in Bologna, responsible for (supporting the management, plan and monitoring scientific activities).

The post-doc scientist will be supporting the researchers in IESP’s Marine Biogeochemistry group in producing regional and coastal marine biogeochemical simulations and analysing their results to identify the processes that drive the change of biogeochemical fluxes in the pelagic and benthic system under climate change within the ATLANTECO, EDITO-Lab and ALIENA projects

The candidate will support the biogeochemical modelling team by:
  • Setting up, performing and post-processing the simulations;
  • Analysing the produced model results;
  • Preparation of scientific papers presenting the outcomes.

  • PhD in Climate Science and Ocean Biogeochemistry or equivalent subjects;
  • Experience in scientific programming and data analysis, demonstrated skills in python and/or FORTRAN programming as well as parallel computing;
  • Previous Experience and skills in the field of dynamically downscaled simulations of coupled physical biogeochemical ocean models and knowledge of the NEMO and BFM consortium models are of particular advantage;
  • Proficient knowledge of the English language;
  • Collaborative and analytical skills in a highly competitive environment.

  • The Managers will be based in Bologna CMCC office.
  • The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from July 2024, with a gross annual salary range of 28-36K Euros. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
