WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a Junior Associate Scientist with good expertise in AI/ML algorithms and a passion for Earth system modeling through data-driven approaches. The ideal candidate will have solid proficiency in PyTorch and in machine-learning model development, including experience with model optimization on multi-GPU systems.
The role requires the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment spanning mathematics, physics, computer science, and climatology, as well as strong skills in task prioritization and efficient problem-solving.

ROLE
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Junior Associate Scientist will support the ADIC Center, with:
- Development of a foundation model for Earth system modeling
- Optimize ML models on multi-GPU architectures
- Model evaluation for computational performance and accuracy of the results
- Write documentations and reports
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, or equivalent fields.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in computer engineering, model development, and neural networks.
- Strong foundations in machine learning.
- Proficient knowledge of PyTorch.
- Good knowledge of Lightning.
- Experience with software version control tools.
- Experience with debugging tools.
- Experience with performance evaluation tools.
- Experience working on HPC systems.
- Very good command of the English language.
- High accuracy and strong analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving approach.
- Proactive and constructive team player.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
- The junior scientist will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
- The appointment period will be initially of 12 months; gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
