We are looking for up to 4 researchers (from early-career up to mid-senior level), with proven experience in the sustainable management of forest systems, with a strong track record in one or more of the following topics: data analysis related to ecophysiology; current and future land–climate interactions, and with a solid understanding of the global and EU climate policy context and experience in policy analysis, adaptation pathways, and in developing sectoral guidelines.
The selected candidate will primarily liaise with teams based in Viterbo and/or Sassari.

ROLE
Researchers in Sustainable Management of Forest Systems and Policies, focusing on the following aspects, will be responsible for: elaborating and analysing data on forest systems conducting consultations and developing policy pathways; providing guidance for modelers and for policymakers; understanding eco-physiological processes and their modelling; assessing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals.
Researchers will work with data and information from multiple sources — including stakeholder perspectives, in-situ data, remote sensing, statistical and geo-portals, and other existing databases/datalakes — with the ultimate aim of supporting the assessment and development of policies in the forest sector.

Specific activities will include:

  • Integrating and correlating different datasets to extract valuable insights on ecosystem functionality and land–climate feedbacks;
  • Designing, coordinating and implementing activities and workflows to identify local stakeholder needs and findings, supporting in translating them into modelling scenarios, interpreting model outputs, and providing practical and actionable guidance for policymakers;
  • Contributing to the critical analysis of findings, particularly in relation to existing EU and global policies for the land sector and climate change, with specific focus on forest policies.



RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities will include (one or more to be covered by each expert):

  • Coordinating, organizing, managing meetings and consultations with project partners and stakeholders, specifically in the forest sector;
  • Delivering reports from meetings and facilitating the communication of information to other partners involved in modelling, as well as interpreting results and translating them into practical policy recommendations/guidelines;
  • Monitoring and validating the quality, accuracy, and reliability of the information produced;
  • Interpreting results with reference to the European and global policy context and climate targets;
  • Preparing and delivering reports and scientific publications, as well as presenting findings at conferences.

REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in environment-related disciplines or equivalent subjects.
  • Co-author and preferably first author of scientific publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Research experience, demonstrating strong skills in at least one of the relevant areas indicated in the text above.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language.
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills.


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The experts will be based in Viterbo CMCC office, with possibility of considering remote work.
  • Different levels from early career postdoctoral researcher up to senior researcher will be considered and contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience.
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
  • Flexible working time as per internal policies.
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
